Jeanne Knutson, CNMT, BCTMB

Jeanne’s real journey started when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Luckily it was benign, but it was located on her brain stem. Her neurosurgeon thought it had been there for about 10 years, growing about a 1/10 of an inch a year. The only option for Jeanne’s case was to have it surgically removed. It was sitting on the top 3 nerve endings of her spine so it was a very tricky surgery with a multitude of severe to mild side effects. The hope was that most of them would subside with time and rehab.

While Jeanne knew Western Medicine had a place in her journey, the real relief of her symptoms started when she received “Craniosacral Therapy”. This technique was the only thing that made her head feel “normal” and gave her hope that she could feel good again. Jeanne was so grateful to the healers she had at that time in her life that it grew into a passion to help people in their journey to heal and achieve a higher quality of life. Plus, she was so amazed with the results that she just knew that the answer was to enroll in massage therapy school, hoping to some day add on craniosacral training to her skill set.

Fast forward to the present day: Jeanne is a Board Certified Massage Therapist. She completed her studies at Northwestern Health Sciences University where she was professionally trained in Swedish Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Reflexology, Oncology, Hydrotherapy as well as Relaxation Massage. Jeanne is also a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist. She uses this deep-tissue technique, which combines deep gliding strokes and sustained pressure, to relieve the pain in damaged, sore and tight muscles. Jeanne is also currently through two levels of Craniosacral therapy training from the Upledger Institute.

In Jeanne’s massage sessions she often uses Craniosacral therapy because of how the work focuses on relieving tension in the connective tissue inside the spine and cranium which in turn brings relief to the rest of the body. Her bodywork will also often include a combination of relaxation massage and rehabilitation techniques for complete healing.

Jeanne believes in thoughtful, individual and compassionate care, and she enjoys problem solving with people in order to positively contribute to their health. Her philosophy is to fit treatment to the individual and their personal goals. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, bike riding, downhill skiing and spending time with her family.

Jeanne is honored to be a member of the SuNu team, collaborating with skilled practitioners who share the goals of education, empowerment, and healing our community, one person at a time.
