SuNu Wellness whole-heartedly condemns white supremacy and commits to anti-racism in business and practice
This isn’t said as a political statement or as a declaration or affiliation to a party side. Rather, this is said in support of human rights. SuNu does not tolerate racism or hate. When we refuse to speak up for others, change our behaviors, or to recognize the inequality and injustice around us, we prolong this cycle of division, fear and hate in which we currently reside.
SuNu has struggled, like many, to “do it right”. We’ve tried to say every word perfectly without sounding polarizing or judgmental. There are topics that are certainly considered ‘off limits’ to discuss when you’re a business/business owner, especially for a small business. Politics is at the top of the list, of course. But we made a commitment to stand up for what we believe is right, just and humane – for ourselves and for others. We cannot say we’re doing the work needed to be anti-racist, inclusive, informed, or of service without clearly communicating and committing to our belief of true justice and equality for all.
SuNu Wellness has been in service to Minnesota families since 2011. We have fiercely advocated for all people regardless of race, sex, status. This is our home, our community and here is our truth, perfect or not: BLACK. LIVES. MATTER.
SuNu condemns white supremacy. We will keep saying this. And, furthermore, we will keep doing the work to prove it.
First and foremost, now is not the time to be afraid of saying it wrong. At SuNu we believe that in order to claim to be anti-racist one must do the work necessary. It’s no longer enough to say simply, “I’m not racist”. Racism exists in nearly all of our American systems, programs, policies, history, economy and beyond. Change-oriented and action-based dialogue and behavior is needed. Claiming to be anti-racist, and actively behaving in an anti-racist way are two different things.
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As a small business focused on wellness and service in the Twin Cities, our commitment to the health of our community has a collaborative and holistic approach. Keeping quiet or being passive right now goes against our promise to fight racism in health care, the wellness industry, and our local and global community. Now is the time for action in order to create a future that serves everyone. We know that with knowledge comes power. With action comes change. Our name, SuNu, stands for ‘New Beginnings’. The time to begin is now.
